
STEPHEN S. CARRYL, MD, MHA, FACS, FASMBS
A nationally recognized and board-certified surgeon, Dr Stephen Carryl specializes in minimally invasive, laparoscopic, bariatric and robotic surgeries. He was the first surgeon to perform a robotic-assisted Roux-Y gastric bypass in Brooklyn in October 2011. This ground-breaking procedure was done at the New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. This borough has been the focus of Dr Carryl’s professional career. He is the chairman of surgery at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and previously served, as the chairman of surgery at Brooklyn Hospital from 2003–2010 where he developed their Weight Loss Surgery Department.
Outside of his practice, Dr Carryl has been a life-long humanitarian. He is president of the non-profit volunteer organization, the Overseas Medical Assistance Team (OMAT) and for 24 years has taken medical teams to the Caribbean and Africa.
He was an early responder to the Haiti earthquake. OMAT has been working in Haiti for the past 16 years with an annual medical mission to Milot in the north and recently at the hospital in Diquini.

- Executive Master in Health Administration, University of Southern California.
- Board Certification in General Surgery
Over 20 years of experience in bariatric surgery.
